We’re almost halfway through our trip visiting our friends in Spain and it has indeed been a whirlwind! Trips always fly by too quickly.

Our friends moved to Spain and this is our second time visiting them. We did SO much on our first trip that we nearly knocked out everything tourists see. We even rented a car and drove to a few spots which included finding the best Argentinian Steak spot that we still talk about…and the best churros!

This time we wanted to take things a little slower, even more so because we have so much traveling left! We’ve still been exploring and staying up way past my American bedtime, still pushing back on the Spanish lifestyle of late late nightlife. I think I’ve found an in between.

Onto the Fun!

A beautiful, breezy seaside town: Sitges

This calming beach town deserves to be put on your day trip itinerary. Every sight could have been should be put on a postcard. If you want to truly enjoy this place though, you must wear your suit and bring a towel!

Traveling to Sitges (Sea-chase)

We used public transportation starting with the metro that’s steps away from our stay. Our trip is about 2 weeks in Spain and we purchased a metro card that was unlimited for a month (~29 euros). We appreciate the peace of mind of not having to keep track/worry about needing to re-up on trips. This is also something we did last time, so I’m not sure if once you scan your metro card it shows a remaining balance.

When we got to Passiege de Barcelona this is when we purchased our train ticket. There was an attendant helping everyone in line. A bit unnecessary if you ask me. If you have your Google Translate you’d be very capable.

You search your destination: Sitges, select how many tickets you want, confirm, and then pay. Very easy. 11 euros round trip.

One thing to note when using your train ticket is it’s a little different than your metro card. Instead of scanning (tapping) your card, you insert it into a slot and it spits it back out then opens the gates for you.

We were told the train fills up quick and with four of us we were most concerned with sitting together. Going to Sitges was easy finding a spot. We sat upstairs with a row to ourself and we were able to sit comfortably. This was also the first sign that we should have worn our swim suits or at least been prepared to swim. We saw multiple women wearing their suits underneath their clothes…we missed out!

There’s not much for views on the train towards Sitges, with the exception of a few glimpses of the sea every now and again. It’s a good time to take a nap or finish up your NYT games to kill time. The ride wasn’t long though, maybe 30-40mins.

We went on a Sunday and got there around 3 pm which most of the cafes/restaurants were closed for siesta. There were still many options open. We passed by one bar that we tried to use the restroom and they turned us away, because we weren’t customers. Which our friends who live here told us that’s the first time that’s ever happened to them.

We made it down to the water and walked up towards a castlesque looking building. Took pictures, enjoyed the shade from the building and moseyed our way to a restaurant looking at the water and ate tapas and partook in their happy hour. It was my first beer of the trip and the Estrella Damme was delicious.

Happy hour was indeed happy, but then I got sleepy from the sun and beer so a cafe was desperately needed.

We found one that was again, in the shade. Did I mention it was a hot day?? The guys got frappes, which were absolutely a great choice and my friend got an affogato and I got a cappuccino. Why didn’t I get something cold? I don’t even have the answer for that.

After our sight seeing we took the same route back home. This was much busier and for the last bit of the train ride instead of sitting we stood in the front area, because my back was hurting. I would definitely go back and I would turn it into more of a beach day, because the water looked so nice and with the heat it would have been nice to take a dip. Towels and suits are a must!
